How to select the enclosure material?

When selecting enclosures, special attention must be paid not only to size, weight, shape, and protection class but also on material itself. The use of metal housings is limited or impossible n combination with internal antennas because they strongly attenuate the propagation of electromagnetic waves.

Plastic housings can also interfere with the propagation behavior depending on the exact material composition and thickness used. Here the dielectric loss factor is an important design parameter. A suitable measurement equipment ,such as distinct antenna analyzer, allows an optimization of the effective antenna pattern at system level.
